III.Packaging and Storage
Packaging Specifications: 25kg plastic drums and 200kg plastic drums.
Storage and Transportation Guidelines: IBOMA is not classified as a flammable chemical; however, during storage and transportation, it should be kept in well-ventilated warehouses, shielded from direct sunlight, isolated from heat sources, and protected to prevent self-polymerization at high temperatures.
IV.IBOMA Application in High Solid Acrylic Resins
In the formulation of acrylic resins, the addition of methyl methacrylate ester monomers (such as IBOMA) can effectively reduce the viscosity of the polymer solution while maintaining the glass transition temperature, molecular weight, and functional group quantity of the polymer constant. Among various cyclic monomers, IBOMA shows a more pronounced reduction in viscosity, as depicted in Figure 1.
IBOMA is a monomer that unifies hardness and flexibility. Due to its molecular structure, polymers produced with IBOMA exhibit excellent high gloss, freshness, scratch resistance, solvent resistance, and weather resistance. Moreover, its moisture absorption is significantly lower than that of MMA (methyl methacrylate). Additionally, acrylic resins containing IBOMA exhibit good compatibility with polyester, alkyd, and many volatile film-forming materials in paints.
When used in powder coatings, IBOMA copolymers can improve the powder's anti-caking properties, enhance the stability of powder coatings, and reduce the melt viscosity during the melting phase. This, in turn, improves the leveling of the coating, enhancing the appearance and gloss of the film.
V, Other Applications of IBOMA
IBOMA is suitable for manufacturing high Tg (glass transition temperature) thermoplastic acrylic resins. The resulting products possess high hardness, alcohol resistance, heat resistance, good flexibility, adhesion, moisture resistance, and weather resistance. It is a structurally distinctive acrylic ester monomer suitable for the production of decorative protective coatings for soft plastic films such as PET, PE, PP, as well as engineering plastic parts like PE, PP, PC, and more. Its wider applications await further exploration and development by experts in various fields.
VI, Health and Safety
IBOMA is a colorless or pale yellow transparent liquid that is insoluble in water. It is of low toxicity, but prolonged exposure can cause irritation to the eyes and skin. Vapors and mists can be irritating to the nose or throat. Personal protective equipment should be worn during handling to avoid direct contact with the substance.
